Surviving Surprises is a result of several factors in my life. It is quite a surprise to find myself in this place in life. A little less than a year ago, I decided to resign my position as a teacher and stay home to take care of my first daughter who goes by the nickname Bugaboo on the blog. Two months later, we found out I was pregnant with our second daughter, Ladybug. It took a while to get into a routine with both girls since they are both under the age of two and still require a lot of my time and attention, but I feel like we have one now. That doesn't mean that we don't have a surprise or two along the way, but I feel like it's manageable now. So, it's time to begin adding in our structured activities.
I very quickly realized that Bugaboo was in desperate need of more dedicated one-on-one time with me throughout the day. As I was browsing a few blogs, I came across a website explaining Tot School and loved the idea of open-ended activities that allow for learning through play and exploration. This blog was started as a way to organize my thoughts and provide a place to reflect on what we've done. Right now, I'm working on adapting the ideas I find online using the materials and space I already have, but I hope in the future I can contribute some original material back to the online community that has given me so many good ideas.
I really hope you enjoy reading about our journey and feel free to comment. I know we'll hit some bumps along the way and make mistakes, but it's all a learning process. We have big plans to survive the surprises and make miracles out of our mistakes!
